Colors

different colored Newfoundlands

It is not uncommon for breeding records (old and new) that the colors of the dogs are incorrect. E. g. from two brown parents puppies were entered as black, this genetically is not possible. In addition, it is sometimes not clear whether a dog marked with SW is a dog white with black markings or a black dog with white markings. It is to be assumed, when from two SW parents a black puppy appears. There are different partial country-specific names for one and the same color, which are summarized in the database as follows:

Database Different names for the same color
B brown/bronze
brindle brindle/gestromt
creme beige/sesam
Fehlfarbe any color which is not permitted according to the standard of the country
Grau grey, gray, silver, blue
SW white with black markings (Landseer is an "old" term, which has nothing to do with the Landseer ECT, still persists colloquially in many Anglo-American countries)
